Responsibilities of the Sector for Information Society
The Sector for Information Society performs duties related to:
• the information society development strategy;
• preparing proposals for establishing and pursuing Government policy in the sphere of telecommunications
• initiating measures for the promotion and encouragement of research and development of information and communication technologies (ICT);
• IT and Internet application and providing information services;
• cooperation in cross-sector committees with the aim of initiating joint activities in the sphere of developing information society;
• developing programmes, plans and work reports;
• preparing professional bases for the formulation of draft laws and other draft documents;
• monitoring the development of European regulations with the aim of harmonising them with our legislation;
• monitoring the development of new ICT and preparing proposals for their application through proper legal frameworks;
• defining a set of indicators and evaluating them, with the aim of projecting the level of development of information society;
• creating comparative analyses with other countries in the sphere of information society;
• development and promotion of an academic computer network;
• giving opinion on regulations and documents prepared by other agencies and organisations;
• cooperation with other public administration bodies with the aim of implementing e-management projects;
• administrative procedure;
• supervising the implementation of laws and regulations stemming thereof;
• management and maintenance of the computer network;
• drafting an automatic data processing programme;
• drafting a development programme and linkage with other state agencies' computer networks;
• data collection for the purposes of analysis of applied technologies and markets;
• participation in the preparation of national and international ICT systems;
• preparation of analyses, reports and material that serve as a bases for enhancing policy development in the sphere of information society;
• compliance with international standards and recommendations in the sphere of information society, as well as other duties in the Sector's purview.
